Can I Get Invisalign With Missing Teeth?

Invisalign has revolutionized the way you can receive orthodontic treatment. These clear aligners can provide a more discreet and comfortable way of straightening your smile. But, if you are also missing one or more teeth, then you may be wondering if Invisalign is the right course of treatment for you.
Here's what you need to know.
I Have Missing Teeth. Can I Still Get Invisalign?
Some people assume that if they have missing teeth, then they are automatically disqualified from receiving Invisalign treatment.
That's not true at all.
You can have missing teeth anywhere in your mouth and still get Invisalign. In some instances, the dentist will place an implant first before proceeding with the Invisalign treatment. And, because a dental implant works just like the root of a natural tooth, it won't have any negative influence on your Invisalign treatment.
That's one scenario.
If you lost your tooth a long time ago and didn't do anything about it, then it's likely that your teeth have shifted and have become even more crooked. If that's the case, then the dentist will probably recommend Invisalign treatment first to move the teeth back into their position and then recommend a tooth replacement option such as an implant or a tooth-supported bridge.
A tooth replacement is necessary to stop your teeth from shifting back into their initial position.
However, It's Not Always That Easy
Generally speaking, you can get Invisalign treatment even if you have a missing tooth. But, what caused the tooth to fall in the first place matters too. If you've lost your tooth because of gum disease, then it may be more difficult to get Invisalign or any type of orthodontic treatment.
That's because the effectiveness of your orthodontic treatment largely depends on the health of the gum tissue surrounding your teeth. The gums and bones are rebuilding themselves as your teeth shift back into their proper position. If your gums are healthy, then this process will happen easily and without any issues. But, if you have gum disease or periodontal disease, then you may lose bone tissue in the process, which can make the treatment more difficult.
